Climate impacts of food

Primary production and the food industry carry out continuous development work to reduce the environmental and climate impacts of food production. However, food production and its resource usage influence climate and biodiversity, for example. Food production and food consumption cause approximately one fifth of the carbon footprint, or climate impacts, of all consumption.

In its operations, Apetit concentrates on plant-based food solutions and cooperates with both contract growers and researchers to reduce the environmental impacts of farming. Apetit is committed to reducing its climate impacts by 75 per cent by 2025.

In the food product chain, primary production accounts for the largest share of emissions. Of Apetit Group’s direct and indirect (Scope 1–3) emissions, approximately 65 per cent comes from purchased raw materials and services and less than 5 per cent from the Group’s own direct operations. In its operations, Apetit concentrates on plant-based food solutions and cooperates with both contract growers and researchers to reduce the environmental impacts of farming.
